Statement on the "comfort women" statue erected by students.

The university administration supports the students' concern to use this statue as a general reminder of the wartime atrocities of sexualized violence, especially directed against women and girls. However, this is not limited to events in World War II, but is a reminder in light of the currently raging Ukrainian War and other war events around the world, and focuses on the suffering of all victims of systematic sexualized violence as war crimes. In order to facilitate a broader discourse among students and to illuminate this comprehensive perspective in their studies, the presentation of the Comfort Women statue has been and will be integrated into AStA events and university courses. It has been agreed with the AStA that the statue can be displayed in front of the Studierendenhaus until the end of the winter semester.
